1. Digital Point-of-Sale & Online Checkout Opt-In
For merchants utilizing digital customer-facing displays, online booking portals, or electronic invoicing, consent is collected via an explicit, unchecked checkbox at the time of purchase or booking.
Example — Merchant Checkout Form
Live ExampleI agree to receive a one-time automated text message from [Business Name] via RouteMyReviews to rate my recent service experience. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time. View Privacy Policy.
Note: The checkbox is rendered unchecked by default and is not a condition of purchase. No SMS is sent unless the consumer affirmatively checks the box before submitting the form.
2. Point-of-Sale Verbal Consent & Manual Entry
For merchants utilizing traditional retail counter terminals without a customer-facing screen, staff are strictly trained to request explicit verbal consent before entering a mobile number into the system.
Staff Training Card — Standard Associate Script
“Thank you for your business today! Would it be okay to get your mobile number so our system can send you a digital receipt and a voluntary link to rate your service experience with us via text?”
The phone number is only committed to the review routing queue if the consumer explicitly answers in the affirmative.
